Commercially & relationally active on the front- and backend of TEN and its portfolio companies. Responsible for investors, partnerships and other stakeholders. Guides and coaches the Founders, with a strong focus on sales & HR.

Background

Jan-Matthijs started his first venture in 1972 when, as a 6-year-old, he sold his mother's antiques unsolicited on the corner of the street in Heemstede. After completing Hotelschool The Hague in 1992, he followed his entrepreneurial heart through his next start-up in South Africa, with a successful exit in 1999. During this stage, he discovered and experienced that building and selling valuable consumer brands make him really happy. Feels at home in this for the past 30 years, with commerce as the spearhead, in which Jan-Matthijs finds building sincere relationships the most beautiful part. This became a common thread in his life as an entrepreneur. The natural outcome is a strong network, particularly in the financial world and among very wealthy investors. Sold his shares in a renowned private wealth management firm in early 2020 to start his new love, TEN.

Personal

Jan-Matthijs has experienced strong learning curves in his life, knows how things can flip, both business and private. He is the youngest of a family with six children, where his mother stood alone as a widow at an early age. Family man. Proud father of two adult daughters, who he was able to brainwash with his love for football club AZ. Sports fanatic with everything that has a ball, and he finds it difficult to lose. His life motto: “what you give is what you get”.
